We decide to go to the Levant company warehouse, in Setpiece.
Once there, we go around the back. It’s dusk, so while there are people around, they are busy: loading trucks, unloading goods into other neighboring warehouses. Behind the Levant company warehouse, however, there are no trucks, but there is a new Ford car. This latest-model car is still shiny and new, seeming far more well cared for than anything else in this setting. The warehouse’s delivery door is closed.
El Nino and Noh slip in, while Dynamo waits while Domino fiddles with the lock. Once inside, the place is chaotic. Crates are overturned, bags ripped open. There are voices from further down in the the warehouse. El Nino dashes about and reports back that there are 13 men in the warehouse, all of whom are wearing black robes with separate hoods and amulets depicting a lion’s head. Cultists are searching the warehouse.
Five employees are gathered together by the cultists, and two cultists are keeping watch over them with guns in their hands. One of the victims is wounded, with a large burn on his chest. He’s laying on the ground, clutching his chest in silent pain.
One man is sitting in the front of the warehouse, looking around very nervously.
As Noh is ghosting around the warehouse, she overhears several of the cultists whispering to each other. They sound more like her neighbors than any of the goons we’ve encountered in the past. She becomes invisible to get closer and hear more.
Domino at last gets the lock open, and she and Dynamo come in and remain concealed by Dynamo’s magic. They re-appear, this time wearing robes similar to the cultists. Two cultists come up and ask them if they have searched the back. From the two cultists, they learn that the group is seeking a mask and a dagger. The cultists believe they were sent to the movie set by mistake, but have to search the warehouse first, just to be sure.
Domino and Dynamo, in disguise, start looking with the cultists.
Noh wanders further away. She spots a cultist wearing a larger amulet. He’s also wearing a babylonian crown and a hammurabi mask. He, of all the cultists, seem to be the most comfortable in his robes.
Dynamo goes towards the back, while Domino walks towards the front. The disguise on Dynamo fades as soon as Domino looses sight of Dynamo.
Dynamo files up towards the ceiling, his disguise gone and surrounded by light. “Gentlemen!” he calls out. “I don’t think you’re supposed to be here!”
Using his incredible speed, El Ninio disarms all but one of the cultists. The two with guns suddenly have empty hands.
The shadows come alive, covering a large part of the warehouse, making Dynamo’s light show all the brighter. Noh reappears between two cultists, her mask appears to be floating between them. But they are too focused on Dynamo to notice. Dynamo fires a warning shot into the cultists.
El Ninio, dressed as Zorro, runs into the front room to tell the man sitting there that we’re here to help. He gets warned about the “masked one” who can shoot flames form his hands. He rushes out to warn the party. He then grabs the firehose, dragging it out and sprays the cultist when he tries to shoot flame out of his hands.
Domino uses illusion to usher the men to the safety of the front room and gets them to call the police on the phone.
Noh uses her ghost abilities to get between the cultists and uses her anger and her claws to devastate them.
Dynamo is beset on all sides. The cultist leader throws fire at him,and the cultists are determined to bring him down. He throws lightning at them, driving them back and even successfully striking their leader. With Noh’s help, he brings the leader low.
Domino picks up the injured man (Achief Cardis) and flys him to the Sunset Mercy Hospital. There, she and Achief become visible and she drops him on a gurney. She names him to the nearest orderly, and leaving him in the capable hands of the doctors, flys back to the fight.
Meanwhile, the cultists surrender to Domino. The owner of the place, and his men help make sure the cultists are well tied up and shout angrily at them in some foreign tongue. The party removes the cultists cowls. They’re all men, white, 20-40. And they all have the look – white bread middle class, proper hair cuts, well fed, good teeth, etc. The leader has suffered extreme burns, and is somewhat drenched.
Under Domino’s insistence, the cultists tell a tale. Seems the leader ordered secret artifacts from the orient/holy land, but the company screwed up and sent everything to the movie set. They were going to bring the artifacts to the temple. Says their lord is the devil. On 8th street and Francisco the old Intolerance set – that’s where their temple is. Located at the top. It’s haunted.
The items are dangerous. If you’re not an anointed servant of Nargul, the artifacts do things to your head. The cultists say its good for business. Domino/Mark tries to convince the cultists to help the cops. It seems to be working.
Noh asks the owner of the warehouse about the cultists’ “special order”. The order was supposed to stay in the warehouse on consignment, but there was a mix-up between the crates. He says Rook entertainment paid for the order and Mr. Blaak was supposed to pick it up.
As the police arrive, Noh fades into the shadows. El Nino is working on mopping up the water.
The police burst in with their guns to find Dynamo stepping forward, and he tells them what’s going on. He warns the police that the cultist leader is a marvel.
We explain what we’re missing; namely a list of the objects the cultists were after and what looking for and what the heck they were up to. Either these guys just don’t understand the “secret” part of a secret cult or they’re up to something bigger.
An army ambulance and a black car show up. The army soldiers come up, and take away the evil marvel. And two men in black suits come out and start talking to the cops. Domino and Dynamo fly off and the ghost disappears into the shadows. The two men in black follow us with their eyes.
We meet up a few blocks away at the top of a bar.
Noh shows Domino that the bronze coin she found on the movie set is emblazoned with a lion’s head. When Domino examines the coin, she sees a yellow eye. She wraps it in cloth and warns Noh that it’s evil.
Noh suggsts that maybe the people at the movie set used the items and went nuts.
We decide to go back to the Bride of Babalon site to protect Ms. Williams tonight.
None of us were needed in the afternoon. The set is full of people as they try to film as much as possible. Rosie is sewing like mad, while Emilio and Stacey have a lot of free time as they move around the set. We keep our eyes out for any other strange artifacts. Mark goes back to work as a stage hand. He tries to stay within “flight range”.
Rosie and Emilio realize that Lou’s pectoral is one of the ancient items. Emilio goes and finds a replacement pectoral. Rosie notices Ms. Williams is very nervous; she keeps asking about the stalker and has a teamster acting as a body guard.
Emilio does a switch with the pectoral.
Stacey is trying to be social and find out who might be involved in this. Everyone is tired, grumpy, anxious for tomorrow as a holiday. She sees the skeezy photos of the dead victims. Some are hungover from yesterday. One person is out-of-it. Henry Grace just sits there and looks dazed. She pushes herself and sure enough, there’s leftover magic on Henry.
Rosie finds out that there was a scene that used a big mask, but the prop went missing. So the scene was shot with a newly made mask. The knife we found was part of the costume too. Most of the props for specific actors are stored under lock and key; and the people with the keys are the set department, including Mr. Henry Grace.
As the day wraps up, Stacey takes Henry over to the comissary cart for dinner. She meets up with Mark and Rosie and they trade info in line for dinner as Stacey masks their conversation. They go back and have dinner with Henry.
El Nin keeps watch on Ms. Williams. She’s reading a dime novel.
Everyone hears a scream. Ms. Williams screams because the devil is standing in front of her. Dressed all in black. He smiles and there’s a flash. And they’re gone.
We leave and head off for the Intolerance set.
El Nino is already there. As he is searching the set, he sets off a magical trap; barely avoiding it. He finds two other sets of symbols, all marking this magic trap.
El Nino flags the rest of the party down. Dynamo/Mark gets there first. El Nino tells Dynamo what he found.
The topmost portal bursts open as El Nino comes near it. A wolf-man steps out of the portal and starts snarling at El Nino. It howls, freezing El Nino. Dynamo shoots at it with a ball of lightning. The thing disintegrates! And El Nino runs around putting out the fires.
After some examination, Stacey decides that the traps are actually portals. She takes the best guess at which is an in door and which is the out; and step together into the in-portal. As the portal closes, Noh suddenly flares out and we are cloaked in Noh’s darkness.
