July 29th, 1947
The team heads towards City Hall.
On top of one of the sections is a terrace. On it is a man sitting on a bench, reading a book. His hair is bright red, but otherwise he is a typically normal looking white man. It’s agent Carrel.
For the past month there’s been criminal actions perpetrated against three leading aironautics companies in the greater LA area (Bell, Hues and Lockeed). They are working for the US government on various projects; one in particular that we cannot allow foreign agents to learn of our endeavors. There’s been 6 separate incidents, including the one this morning.
While espionage is nothing new, they all have signs of Marvel presence.
June 10th – Lockeed aircraft in Burbank there was a theft of high-end equipment. A janitor reported seeing a man that shrunk down until he disappeared.
June 17th – Mr. Howard Hues secretary was kidnapped and returned with a message that he would be next unless he payed a preemtpive ransom of a million dollars were telexed to a private bank account in Switzerland. He refused. The date of giving the money has passed.
June 20th – Sabotage at Hues aircraft of research.
June 22nd – Several sheets of metal and a truck was stolen in the confusion following an explosion. At an electroplating aluminim facility.
June 24th – Robots attacked Bell facility and stole some fuel.
June 29th – Today’s attack. O’Conners makes items for airplanes.
The robots themselves are a menace. They do not know if they were the only ones, or if these thefts are even linked. But the presence of marvels mixed with the government interest is something.
What they know was stolen was Lockeed’s aircraft stability statistics. Hues engines and schematics. Metal; properly machined aluminum (enough to make at least 2 small planes). Experimental aircraft fuel.
Dynamo and Domino are deputized with a badge from Ageus. They don’t trust “the other one” and believe there’s a fourth.
If we haven’t found anything in a day or two – he wants us to get back in touch.
Look around for spies. Spot one on the 17th floor. El Nino confirms. Warn the agent it’s not appreciated. El Nino grabs the film out of the camera. The automatic camera sputters to a stop.
El Nino ties the film to a guard rail and draps the film in such a way that it drapes into the agent’s lap.
Domino makes a screamer for Mr. Hues.
Dynamo steaks out O’Connors.
El Nino checks out the three companies. Lockeed seems OK, Hues Aeronatics is minorly damaged from the previous sabotage. Bell has a huge hole in the ceiling. He spends a lot of time at Hues place. He sleeps there, under a bed.
Around 1:30am, Dynamo hears raised voices coming from the main yard that divides the work space from the administration area. It seems there’s a shorter shift than was expected.
He calls in the team. We assemble sleepily and head towards O’Connor Electrical plating.
The new crew that arrives and replaces the actual crew is faking work. Fortunately, they don’t see Dynamo hiding in the rafters. El Nino finds Dynamo and they hatch a plan.
Before Domino arrives, the workers have stopped their pretence. They leave one guy as a lookout and about 1/2 a dozen guys are banging on nails. The rest go into the breakroom. They open a specific locker labeled “Brund”. They’re using a really small and compact electric torches. They even have the key for the locker. They do something inside, unlock the back of the locker, and there’s a click and a plate slides forward. And a stairway opens up below.
They go into a large storeroom filled with crates. They start taking down the boxes, and moving them back up the stairs. They use a hand-device that emits a light and allows them to pick up three boxes at once.
Domino and Noh approach the breakroom and see a trap door that’s opened and a stairway is exposed. Men are coming up with glowing crates. Domino tries to detect magic and it fails. Something on the man’s body begins beeping madly. He pulls it out and fiddles with it. Domino and Noh fade into the background.
When Domino gets close the device begins to beep again. She turns on her communication device and Dynamo hears “Go tell the engineer that someone is hiding.”
Dynamo makes the device seem to be broken. Dynamo’s view is mostly of the 2 guys who are pretending to work. The engineer went back down into the basement. Noh is seeping into the vans.
She finds a van that has a retracted gun under the roof. The second van has the same thing. The third car in the courtyard is just a car. Both vans have the same markings on the side “Thompson and Son’s Carpentry”. She memorizes the license plates.
The rest go back down to move the crates.
He calls out “Agents of Aim to me.”
The two with the detector return, and the engineer gives them a dirty look – proving the device isn’t broken. They load up the vans. Noh gets into the trunk of the car.
The engineer takes out something that looks like a firecracker. He lights it and it shoots into the air and 20 ft up it breaks into millions of sparkles. Dynamo grabs Domino and we beat it out of the area. Dynamo makes sure the sparkles don’t show their retreat.
The trucks leave and the car follows.
He throws something back into the courtyard, and orders the drivers to go. El Nino thinks it’s some kind of grenade. He grabs it and throws it up into the air. It didn’t explode, instead it came back down in pieces, which he collected.
The caravan eventually breaks away from the main road in Burbank and into the industrial section; until it comes to an airfield with a warehouse. There’s a metal fence with a closed gate.
They head towards the warehouse after the gate is opened. And the doors to the warehouse closes behind them.
Noh seeps out under the car. In the warehouse it’s very light. She waits there.
Dynamo pitches Domino into the warehouse before the doors close. As soon as she gets in, her concealment fades and she is visible. El Nino runs in and he too is visible.
It’s an ambush! With Dynamo outside the closed doors, Noh is trapped in the shadows near the cars while El Nino and Domino are in plain sight of several mooks with guns!
