Meeting a tong, and nothing can possibly go right.
As we step into a courtyard, sided by a small Buddhist temple, a man calls down to us: “Donjon witch!” And points at Rosie. “Every spirit of Chinatown is against you!” And the foo dogs at the gate to the temple come alive and step down off their perches.
The Foo master wears a lion mask and tan colored cape.
Emilio attacks the Foo dogs & Foo master with a series of supersonic punches. He appears to blur and moves faster than the eye can see. The Foo master is successful in blocking a few attacks. The Foo lions try to duck and weave, as does the Foo master – but we can see nothing attacking them. After Emilio becomes a blur, there’s a crack that appears in one of the Foo dogs. Emilio steps in front of the ladies to defend them.
Stacey/Domino focuses her will and thinks of Houdini’s famous flash-bomb trick; when the light fades, there’s a slight glow around the man, showing a Chinese script. Her dazzle has no effect.
Mark/Dynamo. Arks of lightning fires off him as he starts to fly. He aims a bolt at the Foo dog with a crack. The dog, very deftly, jumps aside.
The Foo dogs. #1 leaps into the air towards Mark/Domino. He dodges.
The second one tries to attack Rosie/Noh, and she manages to get out of the way, hitting him with her purse. The purse rips and the mask falls out.
Rosie/Noh grabs the mask and puts it on. She disappears into shadows.
Foo master reaches into his cloak and pulls something out. He claims our Donjon trick will not avail you. He throws a handful of marbles. They land, crashing, and insects fly out. They find Rosie/Noh and swirl around her. They are each a tiny origami bird with calligraphy on it.
Emilio/El Nino interposes between Stacey/Domino and a foo dog, and attacks both foo dogs. This time he’s not sure they’re being affected.
Again Stacey/Domino brings forth a dazzling light, and the Foo dog doesn’t seem to be affected.
Mark tries to strike the Foo dogs, and misses.
Foo dog #1 tries to attack Rosie/Noh and misses. #2 tries to attack El Nino. The foo dogs grabs his arm and flings El Nino away.
Rosie/Noh – Reappears, and wails. The Foo dog retakes its original position, and turns back to stone. Rosie/Noh sees the Foo master as being surrounded by spirits.
The second foo dog breaks in two and the halves fall down.
Foo master. He says “Do not think this is over.” he takes out a piece of silk with writing on it. He tears it in half and the two pieces lengthen out, and fold back around him, then drop down, as he has disappeared.
Emilio/El Nino attacks everything on the rooftop where the Foo master was. He finds only a suit of regular clothes.
Rosie finds a thin wallet containing 10$ – Stacey gives it to the temple priest who is praying over the destroyed Foo dogs.
Also in the wallet is a taxi-dance hall. The Ruby-Tao’s taxi-dance hall on Bamboo lane in Chinatown.
We find Rosie a new purse in Chinatown.
We leave Chinatown and go into Union station. There, we have dinner at the cafe. Tim (an aspiring writer) is working the grill.
We head out into new Chinatown. Ask a newsie for directions when we buy a copy of the nightly news.
We chat out a plan. We go down Broadway, past lots of hawkers. Get to Bamboo and turn left. Mark goes up to the door while Stacey becomes invisible.
Mark goes up a narrow set of stairs to a doorway. There are posters of beautiful Chinese women along the stairwell. At the top are a glass-beaded curtain, behind which comes the music. At the top, there’s a large room, dimly it. Red lanterns hang every 10 feet from the ceiling. There are a bunch of musicians playing in the corner. There’s about 1/2 a dozen couples dancing. A bar is at the far end. There are a dozen young ladies along the bar, dressed in oriental-style dresses, with hair done up fancy.
When he came in they were lounging against the bar, they straighten up. A hostess greets him, and introduces him to the ladies. He buys a few tickets and gets a free beer from the beer. The men who are dancing are mostly in their 20s, some a bit older.
Rosie/Noh slips into a back alley, she stealthily moves around a drunk and puts on the mask. She slips under the door, and starts exploring.
Emilio finds a young man talking to a woman in white. Her hair is down and covering her face. He’s sitting on a chair. She’s standing, and her head is tilted to one side. They are both wearing the same symbol – three daggers. He’s wearing an amulet and the mark is on her clothes.
Back in the dance hall, there’s only one male employee in the dance hall – and he’s an elderly barman. One of the women has a series of knives tatooed around her arms. She’s smiling, but her mouth is a straight line.
The conversation in the back room:
-You say they were magic.
-The Japanese witch was. And the other woman, but not the man who glowed. I don’t know about the child. Spirits said that the child moved very fast.
-Do you think the tong hired them.
-Why would they hire white demons? It makes so sense.
The woman: -The child. He’s in the room with us right now.
-Do not bother to look in a certain place.
And the woman flicks out her sleeves.
Back in the front of the house, Mark picks a girl and shares a dance.
The girl tries to knife him, but he warns her off. She takes the knife from his back and they begin to talk. She claims she’s defending her own, and he tries to counter.
Rosie/Noh tries to back away, and she can’t. Emilio/El Nino sudden finds himself bouncing off walls instead of going through them. The woman identifies them.
The woman asks: Why are you here, Japanese Witch?
Emilio/El Nino tries to knock the pins out of the door. Rosie/Noh turns off the light. The door falls into the room and the glass shatters.
Rosie/Noh: Those who enslave and hurt women have much to fear from me.
The rage of a thousand forgotten daughters will be visited back upon you.
The Foo master got up when the lights went out and the door fell in. He steps back and clutches the dragon to his chest. The woman, she looks up. Her face is gaunt. Her body position is twisted, creepy, ‘How dare you. 30 men were lynched because of you!’
Noh unleashes her fear upon them. In the front room, everyone stops to try and figure out where the noise comes from. The Foo master starts shaking and yelling “Shut up!” over and over.
The RSW looks at Noh and starts saying names. She throws her sleeves out, and Noh is not quite fast enough. Her sleeves wrap around Noh causing Noh to be hindered and vulnerable.
Emilio/El Nino runs out of the room, causing a sonic boom behind him. The Foo master is dazed and vulnerable, but RSW doesn’t seem affected. The loose items in the room are thrown about.
He stops besie Mark and tries to get his attention and is blown slightly forward by the boom.
Rosie/Noh disappears and reappears behind her, then releases her rage on the RSW, but nothing connects.
RSW flits around and looks at her and starts ranting. She starts spinning in place, her silk arms extend out, they go through the walls, go through Foo master, and Noh avoids most of the hits.
Domino watches Dynamo’s back.
Dynamo thanks his partner, and steps away. Lightning flairs up as he flys away. He gets to the door and sees RSW. He throws lighting at Foo master and hits!
SC pulls out knives and Domino throws a table at her. SC dodges the table but can’t find a target.
NPCs panic. Mass pandamonium as people flee out of the place.
Foo master. He throws a doll at Dynamo, which grows and tries to skewer Dynamo with his spear. The spear goes through the force field but doesn’t do Dynamo any harm.
El Nino follows Mark. He strikes Foo master.
Noh attacks the statue, shattering it.
RSW attacks Dynamo. She wraps him in silk. He is defenseless and immobilized.
Domino flys out of the stampeed and past SC into the back room. Watching for attackers.
Dynamo tries to fling lightning at RSW, but fails.
SC helps people up and out of the building.
NPCs are still fleeing
Cat man do pulls out a spear.
Domino starts talking, manages to get him to pause as they realize they might be enemies.
El Nino. Attacks RSW and hits her too fast for the eye to see. She starts to slouch then falls to a knee.
Noh drifts around to face the Foo master and her mask because more neutral. She agrees with Domino.
RSW she lets go of Domino, and starts talking.
The dancer joins us.
They set up the shrine.
El Nino cleans up the room.
We are introduced to chrysanthemum (Ji-ya), Foo Master (Ji-yan) and the Resplendent Silk Witch (their great great great great grandmother).
